I’m back in BC again as of yesterday.
I have a lot of thoughts, a lot of emotions, and a lot of creative gumption that came out of the last week. It was as much of a rollercoaster as I thought it would be, with as many opportunities to laugh as there were to cry. From my vantage point on the other side of it, I don’t think I’ll be able to do it all justice in a blog post. I think it’ll have to be something that I work out of my system in a multimedia sort of way. The farm and Thorhild are going to wind up in stories I write, art that I make, video and photo compilations that Tim and I collaborate on, and magpie collections of things-in-boxes. It’s too big to fit into one place or project.
I will say it was ultimately a good trip. I did what I needed to do, collected what mattered, revisited where I could and gave a distant salute to those that had become unreachable in my absence. I don’t feel any regrets – just a lot of love.
I had a lucky childhood, growing up where and how I did. If all you look at is the surface, then it was humble in the grand scheme of things, but I feel like I got a very rich start. I’m nothing if not grateful.
And at the end of the trip, I couldn’t ask for a more storybook send off. Prairie fireworks, with the sky lit up by the shimmering green dragon of the northern lights – like the place itself was giving me one last gift. I’ll treasure that.
