January 20, 2026

Posted on January 20, 2026January 28, 2026 by

This year has felt… very haphazard so far. Work is still eating my mental capacity, juggling all of my creative endeavours remains possible (in theory) and yet I haven’t managed the knack of it, yet. I’m writing. Badly. That’s okay, because it’s still writing. I’m not feeling bad about it as a whole because I know later passes will smooth it out, I think. I’m pretty sure.

I’m almost making art, and that’s unfortunately feeling much less enjoyable and I don’t have as much optimism about it. It’s all just twenty minute sketches crammed in between tasks at work or chores at home and that’s not enough to do anything with. The results haven’t been making me happy and it’s more than a bit disheartening. But I can’t make the days any longer and I do want to do other things. Art’s been my primary focus for ages so that I think it’s just hard to let go of it. I feel like my worth is tied to the pictures that I draw or something, and that’s not true. I do more than that.

Just nothing that I can show off like I can show off art. A bummer.

I am reading! That’s going well, at least.

I think I’ll figure it all out, but so far it’s been difficult and I’m trying not to lament how I’m just not having much to show for my efforts because it’s all so slow. The bits and pieces method will work, I’m sure, it’s just frustrating how it takes time.

Every week has been a little better, though, and I think soon I’ll have a rhythm going that works.

As for events, there have been some. It was my buddy Renee’s birthday earlier this month and I’ve unleashed a creative force by buying them art supplies. It always feels so good when you get it right and actually grant someone exactly what they were looking for.

We’re watching a wild trifecta of some of my favourite media of recent years, and so at least my creative consumer self is being fed. Trigun: Stargaze came out and I couldn’t, for the life of me, remember half of what happened in Trigun: Stampede, so we’re watching them at the same time. Stargaze on Saturdays when a new episode releases, and Stampede during the week until we catch up again. On Sundays, there is now an Arcane rewatch happening, and it’s interesting now that I’m seeing the first few episodes again without actively trying to hate it like I was the first time. Clearly, that didn’t work.

I also reorganized my entire corner bookshelf last night. I’m not allowed to spend money on treats any time soon, but heck, when I can, books will be back on the menu! There is room.

Aleksi had opinions of the process. Mostly that I’m nuts.

The end result, though, was a happy cat and a happy me:

I’ll try again to update here more frequently, and I’ll keep working at balancing all the things I like best in my life. Maybe soon I’ll find the knack of it. I think I will.

Every once in a while I get worried that I’m in an echo chamber and the overarching public is becoming complacent, but then I see stuff like this where the attempts to normalize GenAI media get walked back because SO MANY PEOPLE just loudly hate it.

    Thank goodness.

Jorge R. Gutierrez has announced he is dropping out of Amazon’s AI program and will no longer be making the animated series Punky Duck.

    BEHOLD. IN ALL ITS BEAUTY.

Whenever my husband takes something I drew and begins to translate it into a real thing I lose my mind juuuuuust a little bit. This is going to be wicked cool when it's something I can hold. :O

    Thaaaaank you ;; 💙💙💙

I'm a crazy person and spent like 15 hours building this skull dog cyberpunk mask in Fusion 360, the one that @talonserena.bsky.social designed for her OC, Heinrich. I will 3D print this someday!

Wolf file originally from the UVic library collections.

It’s not my work to show off, but made a 3D model version of the wolf skull mask design that I drew for Heinrich and I AM VIBRATING because it looks so COOL.

And someday he wants to build it for ✨realsies✨

IT IS I WHO IS BARKING.

    …..

…this mask is not canon Heinrich attire (he would not could not) but a rebellious part of me wants it to be.

All righty, Libby gave me an option to skip the line and give Fourth Wing a
shot. Romantasy is not typically my bag - I’m more of a gay af/platonic/non-standard-love sci-fi cyberpunk fan - but a buddy of mine issued high praise for the world-building, so.

    In we go.

Anyway. A WIP. Because -making- art with one’s own two hands, learning the skills, spending the time, and using the goddamn tools that came free with your humanity (your hands! your mind!) is FUN and GOOD FOR YOU.

A screenshot of a very rough work-in-progress sketch in Procreate. It’s a digital paint-over of a photograph of a sketchbook page, featuring a dramatically snarling Heinrich, his hair in wild tendrils around him. There’s a gesture of sharp ears above his head.
